In His Name

In His Name

Every Sunday we gather to lift up Jesus in our worship services. Jesus is the hope for everyone. There is no other name that can save and heal. As we come together in his name, whether a LifeGroup on a cafe or as the whole church celebrating on Sunday, he has promised to be with us. And every week we see him at work in us, healing the sick, answering prayers, giving wisdom in tough calls, bringing love into cold relationships, well, the list could be made long. To him be all the glory! Welcome to join us in any of our many LifeGroups across the week and the city and this Sunday at Siam and Bangna!

What is baptism?

What is baptism?

Baptism is an amazing way that Jesus taught us to express our belief and belonging to Him and His church. Maybe you want to make this declaration now or maybe you have a friend you want to explain the meaning of baptism to. Please read the following to get a better understanding of what the Bible teaches about baptism:

B A P T I S M ?

Jesus was baptized. All his disciples in the Bible were baptized. Here we want to explain answer some questions around baptism. First, let’s look at a story from the book of Acts chapter 2. When we dive into this exciting passage of the Bible thousands of people have just heard the apostle Peter share the good message about Jesus. Let’s look at their reaction:

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Now you have heard, that God has done everything to prove his love for you and to save you from sin and eternal destruction. So what do you do with that? The story of our God romance is not just poetic, it is very practical. Jesus has done it all to save us. What is our response to that practical sacrificial love. Ephesians 2:8 Says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” . What is our reaction to that gift? First we have faith. It is only faith that saves. But our faith leads us to ask the same question as they did.

The people that just had heard these great news in Acts 2 said:

What shall we do?

The answer is simple…

1.Repent.
2.Be baptized.

This is all we need to do. Out of our FAITH and trust in God we REPENT and we are BAPTIZED.

Repentence is an inner change of our heart that affects our whole way of life, leaving our inobedience and pride to BELIEVE and TRUST God in everything.

Baptism is an outward physical confirmation and declaration of that faith.

How are we baptized?

The word BAPTISM used in the Bible comes from the Greek word: Baptizo

A word used of things totally covered or submerged by a liquid. The word is used referring to a pickled olive or vegetable. The word is also used for dying a cloth where the cloth is changed taking on the new color. As the greek word refers to submersion so baptism is a persons dipping completely under water. The Bible says that we are not just cleansed on the outside but also washed clean from our sin. We are baptized into Jesus. Just like when we color the silk yarn by dipping it into the color until it takes on the same character as that color so when we are baptized we are submerged into and become one with Jesus.

When we baptize people at LifeCenter Church we usually use a swimming pool. Two leaders assist the person who wants to be baptized into waist deep water. Then we pray for you and submerge your whole body for a second under the water. We baptize you to Christ in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Doing this in faith in Jesus means you are baptized! Our baptisms are a celebration of joy of what Jesus is doing in you life!

What does it mean to be baptized?

Let’s look at some Bible verses that teaches us what baptism is:

Rom 6:1-14

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4  We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. 13 Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness. 14 For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.

When we are baptized…

  • We are baptized into Jesus Christ (Rom 6:3)
  • We bury our old life (with sin, bad habits, demonic bondages, depression, old religion etc) and a resurrection to the new life with Jesus. (Rom 6:4)
  • We die from sin and are set free. (Rom 6:7)
  • We get a new identity. (Rom 6:11)
  • We offer our bodies to be used as God’s instruments of righteousness. (Rom 6:13)
  • We are not under judgement anymore but come under the grace of Jesus. (Rom6:14)

1 Pet 3:21 (The Message)

The waters of baptism do that for you, not by washing away dirt from your skin but by presenting you through Jesus’ resurrection before God with a clear conscience

  • We are presented to God with a clear conscience (1 Pet 3:21)
  • We follow Jesus example (Luk 3:21)

  • We are presented to God with a clear conscience (1 Pet 3:21)
  • We follow Jesus example (Luk 3:21)

Gal 3:26-28

26 So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

  • We are clothed with Christ. (Gal 3:27)
  • We publicly identify ourself with God’s family. (Gal 3:26-28, 1 Cor 12:13)

  • We are clothed with Christ. (Gal 3:27)
  • We publicly identify ourself with God’s family. (Gal 3:26-28, 1 Cor 12:13)

Who can be baptized?

  • Everyone who believes! (Acts 2:38)

Mark 16:16

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

If you want to repent and believe in Jesus Christ and confess Him as your Lord you can be baptized.

When can someone be baptized?

  • When you believe you can be baptized. You don’t have to wait. In the Bible people that got saved in the middle of the night was baptized before morning. The apostle Paul is the example of the person that waited the longest. He waited 3 days…

Don’t hesitate:

Let’s look at some examples from the first believers in the book of Acts

8:36,

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”

10:47-48,

Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days

22:16,

And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

16:33

At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.

Jesus has commanded his followers to baptize those who want to believe.

Matt 28:18-21

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

LifeChurch is a church for everyone who lives in Bangkok. We love this nation! We love Bangkok! This city is so international and we believe heaven will be very multi-cultural.

There is so much fun to get to know people from other cultures and learn from each other. The majority of our church is Thai-speakers, just like our city, and that’s the way we like it. Thai people are world famous for their hospitality and wherever you are from you will for sure feel very welcome!

We believe God has placed us all, whatever nationality, to be a blessing to this city and we don’t want to isolate the gifts and personalities of certain cultures in separate communities. We believe you are placed in this city to make a difference, and together we can.

The Launch

The Launch

5-7th of August we had an awesome Celebrate Church Weekend. People were saved, baptized in water and the Holy Spirit. Many guests came to celebrate with us. We thank God for some great days with many new and old friends a lot of fun. We were mightily ministered to by our guest speakers Pastor Tom Rawls from Norwich, England and pastor Per-Johan (P-J) and Ulrica Stenstrand.

Pst. Tom with his sense of humor, using his 12 years of ministry experience in Thai language and culture shared words that impacted and inspired us all. Pst. P-J & Ulrica came and gave us the love and wisdom only “grandparents” can do.

It all escalated with the Launch Party on Sunday afternoon. People streamed in on the red-carpet into our new venue at MercedesBenz in Lumpini.
The atmosphere was full of anticipation and excitement as people mingled around and greeting others. We sensed God’s presence in the worship as the worship team led us in songs like “Nothing is Impossible” and “God of this City”. We were encouraged by some of LifeChurch’s members sharing their stories on the screen and Pastor P-J and Ulrica gave us their hearts. Pastor Paulina & Daniel shared the heart of our church and then they cut the “naval-cord”, the ribbon, held up by the LifeKids symbolizing the next-generation.

“The Church is not about a building. The Church is a movement of people coming to Jesus and being sent out to show God’s love accompanied and equipped by the Holy Spirit.”

The snacks and coffee table was covered with two giant cakes in the shape of Space Shuttles along with Thai snacks and fruit. So many smiling faces were photographed as we all enjoyed this historic Sunday in downtown Bangkok. For more photos please visit this album on our Facebook page.
